Growing firm doubles its space and keeps it fun
The forecast looks stable for Toronto-based Rain43. The creative agency, celebrating its third anniversary this month (Sept.), recently relocated—its third move in as many years. The amalgamation of three shops (Wildmouse, Partners & Edell and Combustion Studio) Rain43’s founding partners, John Farquhar and John Yorke, have grown the brand-building agency to a staff of 40 with 11 in the design studio. All three company addresses have been on Toronto’s trendy King St., moving eastward each stop. The latest space occupies 10,000 sq. ft. on the second floor of a modern two-storey. Designed by Cindy Stiller, the clean, open-concept shop incorporates touches from its last home, including the wall mural commissioned from artist Dudeman (Nicholas Sinclair), removed in four pieces, and a canoe light fixture hanging above the boardroom table. Dudeman was called in again to add colourful splashes to the new white walls. A row of glasswalled fishbowl offices face the central kitchen area featuring an obligatory tabletop hockey game. Comfy open spaces allow for informal brainstorming sessions or temporary relief. The entire space is wired for high-speed, and its multiple flatscreens are linked through AppleTV, and occasionally a featured movie of the month runs on a loop throughout the office, including the washrooms, so creative influence is never too far away.
