Creatives on the move

This month has seen several moves in the industry.

Philip Mondor

In Kitchener, Ont., Philip Mondor joins Hagon Design and his longtime friend, creative director Ben Hagon. The firm hired Mondor as assistant creative director after recently winning several new projects, including a large national campaign, Hagon says. Before the move, Mondor spent almost three years as a senior designer at Barefoot Creative in Kitchener. Mondor says he made the change because he will have more creative flexibility working at Hagon. “It definitely feels like the right move,” he says. Prior to joining Barefoot, Mondor worked at Hambly & Woolley in Toronto (see “Town to Country,” Jan/Feb 2010).

At Zig’s Toronto office Aaron Starkman has been promoted to partner and chief creative officer. Starkman has been at Zig for eight years as creative director and writer before this promotion. He has worked for clients such as IKEA, Molson and Best Buy. Starkman replaces Martin Beauvais who had been in charge of Zig’s creative department since 2006, before resigning earlier this month.

Adding to his responsibilities for TAXI North America, CCO Steve Mykolyn has been appointed chief creative officer of TAXI Europe. Mykolyn joined TAXI in 2001 and has produced online campaigns for Sony, Nike and Levi’s, among others. He replaces TAXI chairman Paul Lavoie, who last held the chief creative officer role for Europe. Lavoie remains president of the TAXI empire.

Toronto-based Mondegro has hired Nancy Moniz to fill its new position of creative director. The firm brought her on board to help them cope with an increased workload, which includes several exhibit and web design projects. Moniz spent the last 10 years doing freelance corporate communications work and has a background in multimedia.

Calgary’s Foundry Creative welcomes Laura Gilpin, who will be filling a new role as project manage. Gilpin has extensive experience in marketing from both a client and agency perspective. Most recently, she spent three years with Greenboro Homes, where she was responsible for sales, marketing and brand consistency.
