“It was important for us to recognize a small business and a large corporation who have invested significantly in the design of their brand,” reads a statement by Bob Hambly, RGD’s vice-president of communications and creative director at Hambly & Woolley. Cumbrae’s is a speciality butcher shop in Ontario; Allied Properties REIT is an owner, manager and developer of urban office environments.
“Cumbrae’s online presence to in-store experience and Allied’s state of the art office and award-winning magazine are examples of meticulously constructed experiences that have been carefully shaped by true design thinkers,” Hambly said. The magazine he refers to is Block, Allied’s quarterly custom publication launched in 2013.
Allied head Emory said the company uses “design-driven problem solving” when commissioning new builds. “Our goal–to create inspiring, sustainable and creative work spaces for the future–has design thinking at its very core,” he said.Cumbrae’s founder Alexander said, “We’ve worked hard to integrate design throughout the expansion and evolution of the customer experience… This honour would not be possible if it were not for our collaboration with expert designers in marketing, brand and shop design.”
The DesignThinkers of the Year ceremony takes place November 12 at 4:45 pm at the DesignThinkers conference in Toronto. This year’s prize was designed by Entro Communications.
