TORONTO—A new studio in Toronto combines graphic and floral design, the only studio of its kind that its owner knows of.
"They’re two pretty separate skill sets within design," said Petite Studio owner Sarah Wu.
The studio at 49 St. Clair Ave. W. (unit 105) is a "small-but-big idea" said Wu, who is a classically-trained and award-winning graphic designer. She also has a lifelong love of flowers, she added.
"I think some people might not be fully inspired by what they see in a typical florist’s catalogue or on mass-market websites with pre-packaged arrangements," she said. "If you’re trying to create a special event like a wedding or a party, you want to show a sense of elegance or imagination or flair — whatever fits the occasion and who you are."
She doesn’t yet have samples of work incorporating both design disciplines as the studio just opened this month, she said. She is working mostly on her own, but brings in freelancers when needed, she explained.
Wu also teaches private floral design workshops and is a part-time instructor at the Canadian Institute of Floral Design.
