Each year, the Polaris Music Prize taps music-loving illustrators and designers for a poster series that visually encapsulates the year’s shortlisted albums. The slate for 2015 includes posters of The New Pornographers, Drake, Buffy Sainte-Marie and more, and is anchored by a commemorative poster by Montreal’s Pat Hamou that celebrates Polaris’s 10th anniversary.
Polaris 10th anniversary poster: Pat Hamou
“Pat had done two previous posters for Polaris and we simply love his work,” said Steve Jordan, founder and executive director of Polaris Music Prize. “He had just spent 10 years doing the bulk of Montreal music festival Osheaga’s artwork, so we wanted to tap into that sense of history a bit. We told him, like we do with all of our commissions, to just do what came to him conceptually without much guidance from us and to not be too literal.”
“We love it. It’s majestic, bleak, magical, and powerful like the artists who we honour,” Jordan said.
The Polaris Music Prize is an annual award given to a full-length album by a Canadian act based on artistic merit, regardless of sales or genre.
