The Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM), located in Montréal, Québec, has revealed a brand new logo to proudly represent their service and brand moving forward. This logo will be displayed on trains, stations, and signage to better serve the public with the REM’s transit network which is currently in development.
The logo overall is intended to be as simple as the metro logo, but stands out in its own unique way. Natives and tourists alike will easily remember this new logo, as well as what it means, and how they can access one of twenty-six REM stations in Montreal.
The letter “R” was chosen as the primary element of the new logo, which is both recognizable in French and English. Not only is it the first letter in the company’s name, but it also starts various French terms associated with public transport, such as rapide (fast), rassembleur (unifying), responsable (responsible), Rive-Nord (North Shore), and Rive-Sud (South Shore).
Two shades of green were chosen as the logo and brand’s color scheme, to not only reflect the REM’s environmentally-friendly standards, but also a color that represents the company’s forward thinking in addition to being able to blend in better with the environment through the use of the metro line.
The line that passes through the “R” also conveys multiple meanings, from resembling the section of rail over Highway 40, to giving off the impression of a fast, nimble metro line, which is what the REM promises to deliver across Greater Montreal.
The logo and brand has been created by the Havas Group, a team of driven and creative professionals that promote companies large and small, with designs and messages that best reflect the quality of their clients. Havas, also specializes in marketing, advertising and communications, in order to effectively add value, and character to newly-created brands and campaigns.
The Réseau Express Métropolitain is the world’s most ambitious public transit project that is designed to provide speedy, light rail transit across greater Montreal for 20 hours a day, every day of the week. The REM will integrate into current metro lines that will add, and simplify commutes no matter where the public is coming from or going to in the city.
