Established in 1887, Speed Skating Canada, also known as SSC, is a sport that involves two types of skating runs, long and short, and has continued to grow in popularity across the country. It is estimated that there are now over 5,000 plus participants in this sport, and that number continues to rise. As a result, the need for speed has increased which was one of the inspirations behind the Speed Skating Canada’s recent rebrand.
Now, more than ever, branding is how we visually convey who we are, what we do, why we do it, and whether or not we’re going to be remembered that way. It isn’t just about having a catchy catch phrase or jingle. It isn’t having the coolest, most inspiring logo or name. It’s the story of the brand wrapped up into a single point of view.
The Branding Motivation
Speed Skating is an incredibly focused and skilled sport. The recent re-branding captures the togetherness that the sport brings, to families and athletes alike. The lines within the new logo represent the journey and path forward required for both long and short form racing. It also represents the time, effort, and dedication required to achieve it.
Keeping Canada Proud
The large maple leaf shape and bold white and red colors represent the essence of its people. You can see that same theme pulled into the re-defined branding for this fast paced and focused sport. The “unifying” nature of this sport needed to be realized which is why it took the hearts and minds of thousands of Canadian communities, to bring this to life. There is one thing that is for sure, the Speed Skating Canada organization knows the importance of community, their people, and most importantly their passion.
