VANCOUVER—Local advertising and design agency Rethink has partnered with Langara College on a unique contest campaign to promote Langara’s new two-year Communication and Ideation Design program. Langara has put up $18,000 for a two-year program scholarship; the winner will also receive a three-month internship at Rethink.
Applicants will be judged on their creative use of an 8.5" x 11" hardcover sketchbook. “We all use blackbooks at Rethink,” says Simon Bruyn, who was the writer on the scholarship campaign designed by Rethink. “They’re the main focal point where our ideas come from.”
Rethink is encouraging applicants to use the sketchbook creatively; a promotional microsite for the scholarship carries a video where the book is used as a platform for stop-motion animation.
“Kids are probably coming with a lot more enthusiasm than know-how,” Bruyn says, “so we just wanted to look at potential.”
The campaign was launched in January and, along with the microsite, includes posters and belly bands on art books in Opus bookstores. Submissions are due May 8th.
