This Tech Tuesday’s feature is Knocki: A neat little device that attaches to household or office surfaces (walls, tables, doors, furniture, countertops, etc) and connects to your devices and software – making the surface a touch sensitive input. Different patterns of taps can initiate different actions – a double-tap could turn on the lights, while a triple-tap could arm your home security system for the evening.
While the device gains more options the more “smart” connected your home is, the feature that really sold us was one of the simplest ones: Make your smartphone, which you were SURE you left on the desk / coffee table / whatever, ring when you tap your knocki-powered surface 4x. (Yes, it was lost in the couch cushions, again).
It might be the modern day “clapper”, but it was fully funded in just over an hour so there is definitely demand! Knocki is selling via Indiegogo pre-order for $89, or $229 3 units, + Shipping (all prices in USD). Their most recent update (late March) indicates they are still on track to start delivering to backers mid-2017.
